Barentz sourcing moves into India

With a population of 1.1 billion inhabitants, India is one of the giants in Asia. India has a huge proportion of academics, an excellent ICT infrastructure and English is the language of the business community. The country is enjoying rapid economic growth and witnessing profound changes. The liberalization of trade with dramatic lowering of import duties has decreased internal Indian price levels and made Indian producers much more export focused. As a result exports from India increased by 36 % last year.

For the pharmaceutical industry India has long been a main supplier for API’s. With the recent changes it is now also a prime candidate to supply ingredients and additives to the food, feed, cosmetic and chemical industries. We are convinced that India’s role as an exporting nation will grow rapidly and bear strong resemblance to the developments in China. For this reason, Barentz Sourcing Unit is now also entering India.

Already in 2005 Barentz started its sourcing office in China in Changzhou City near Shanghai. Screening suppliers, auditing factories and organizing the commercial and logistic operations are the key activities of our China team. The same services have now been set up in India from our New Delhi based foothold.
